Students should contact the University of Indianapolis Financial Aid Office for a complete listing of available scholarships and grants. The following is specifically designed for social work students, or are frequently used by social work students, although not specifically designed for just social work majors.
Entering first year Social Science students are eligible for this scholarship. Selected students are awarded up to $2,000.
The Admissions Office offers two different scholarships for students who have transferred into the University of Indianapolis as a full-time student. The Phi Theta Kappa Honors Scholarship gives $3,500 annually to the receiving student. The Academic Transfer Scholarship gives $3,000 annually to prospective students.
This award is an endowment created by Dr. Phylis Lan Lin to assist students while promoting social work values, and encouraging diversity among the students currently in the University of Indianapolis Social Work Program. Recipients are selected each year by the program faculty to receive equal scholarships. The scholarship amount is announced annually at the Honors Convocation. Students may receive this award more than once. Criteria is based on the following:
This endowment was developed by Dr. Mildred Reynolds, a 1961 graduate of the university who led a distinguished life in the profession. This scholarship was designed to promote interest among social work students to work with the late adult population. Annually, social work faculty will select a recipient that has an emphasis, curricularly and vocationally, in working with the older populations.
Students who have provided leadership in a local church, district, and/or conference youth ministries of the United Methodist Church, and who demonstrate outstanding potential for Christian leadership at the University of Indianapolis may qualify for this scholarship. The student must be an active member of the United Methodist Church. Students selected will receive up to $3,000 per year, up to a maximum of four years.
Each year, the University of Indianapolis recognizes its affiliation with United Methodist Church. It grants $2,500-per-year to all full-time United Methodist freshmen and transfer students seeking an undergraduate baccalaureate degree. Recipients receive $1,250 each semester for a maximum of eight semesters. Semesters of attendance at other colleges and universities will count toward the eight semester maximum. The number of students a single church can recommend for this award is unlimited. The United Methodist Award is renewable each year, continuing through their senior semester (a maximum of four consecutive undergraduate years). The student must remain in good social standing and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA as a full-time student. Demonstration of financial need is not a requirement for the award. One student is chosen from each discipline within the Social Sciences Department, thus including Sociology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice. An overall Henricks Award is given to one student among all three disciplines. This is primarily based upon grade point average.
This award is given to one social work student per year based on academic work promoting social justice.
Developed by one of the alumni, this is awarded to one senior who demonstrates commitment to chemical dependency and/or women issues.
This award is in honor of the recently retired university provost. This is awarded to one Social Sciences senior annually who has been highly involved in community service. This award is not exclusively for social work students; however, it is nearly always awarded to a social work student due to the outstanding activities of the program’s students.
