Jeff Bryant |
Jeff BryantDirector of the Social Work ProgramB.S.W., 1983, Indiana University; M.S.W., 1985, Indiana University; LCSW, 1993. Mr. Bryant teaches the macro social work courses,including Macro Human Behavior and Social Environment, Social Welfare Policy, Practice with Macro Systems and Foundations in Social Work Practice. He also teaches additional coursework in Understanding Addictions and Working with Youth. Mr. Bryant started as an Adjunct instructor at the University of Indianapolis in 1993. In addition, he has taught in the social work departments at Indiana State University in Terre Haute and at IUPUI in Indianapolis. He brings a wealth of experience form the field of social work into the classroom. Mr. Bryant has been working out in the field for 25 years with adults, youth, and families in social service, residential, and hospital settings. He has experience in program development, supervision, program evaluation, budgeting, hiring, and training staff. Mr. Bryant has served as a volunteer leader in many capacities in the community, such as a volunteer leader in Young Life and Big Brothers, Advisory Board member with Fairbanks Hospital and Wheeler Mission, and as a member of the board of Directors at Outreach Inc and the Indiana University Social Work Alumni Association. He has also presented numerous workshops dealing with adolescents, their families, and drug and alcohol addiction since 1985 to school systems, social service agencies, and churches. |

Toni Peabody Coordinator of Field Practica
B.S.W., 1972, Ball State University: M.S.W., 1981, Indiana University. Ms. Peabody is the coordinator of Field Practica for the program. She teaches Fields of Social Work and oversees all junior and senior practica. In addition, Ms. Peabody receives release time each year to oversee the Laurelwood/YMCA/U of I Community Partnership that involves recruiting and training college students to work with children aged 6-16 years old at our neighboring community of Laurelwood. In addition, she has initiated and taught many service learning courses in Social Work, the School of Adult Learning program, and within the Civic Engagement and Community Leadership Minor at the University of Indianapolis. Ms. Peabody began half-time at the University of Indianapolis in 1987, and joined the full-time faculty in 1996. Ms. Peabody is very active in a variety of capacities throughout the Indianapolis community. She has served on Advisory Boards and the Board of Directors for non-profit agencies. She was president of the Catholic Social Services Board of Director, and was recognized as Board Member of the Year in 1993. She is currently serving her third, two-year term on the Indianapolis Family Services Association Board of Directors. Her committee work involves fundraising; in 2001 she co-chaired their major fundraising event. |

Tracy MarschallAssistant Professor Tracy Marschall joins the faculty of the University of Indianapolis as a full-time Assistant Professor in the Phylis Lam Lin Program in Social Work after spending four years on the faculty of Indiana University. An alum of the University of Indianapolis with an undergraduate degree in English and World Religions, Professor Marschall earned her MSW from Indiana University and has completed the coursework and two qualifying exams towards a doctorate in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She has taught across the generalist BSW curriculum, with a special interest in courses on Human Behavior in the Social Environment (HBSE), as well as macro practice courses at the graduate level. Collaborative learning activities and applied learning techniques with a special commitment to creating a safe environment for learning characterize Professor Marschall's teaching style. She will be teaching the Micro and Mezzo courses, the Research course as well as some electives here at UIndy. Professor Marschall's primary research interests currently include diverse family systems and theory development; child welfare, divorce, custody and visitation (with a focus on therapeutic supervised visitation); and the use of expressive/art therapy techniques for social workers. Professor Marschall is committed to improving social work education and has written and presented on infusing the curriculum with diversity content; the teaching of HBSE, and using an active learning model to teach group theory and skills. Originally from Gary, Indiana, Professor Marschall considers Indianapolis home and has worked with a variety of agencies in practice such as the Marion County Mental Health Association, the Information and Referral Network, St. Elizabeth's Home, Planned Parenthood, and the Center for Urban Policy and the Environment. Working in these agencies, along with providing supervision to high conflict families during visitation with non-custodial parents, has provided opportunities for a diverse body of practice experience. She has coached teens through crisis calls, performed case management and mentoring to pregnant teens, worked with adoptive families, and mediated parenting task with highly litigious couples. She is an advocate for children on the legislative level as well as in the family with complex problems. Professor Marschall also has enjoyed working with community groups by providing technical support such as program development, evaluation, Board Development, and pursuing the recognition of nonprofit status by the IRS as they seek to implement strategies to address community needs. The most enjoyable part of her chosen career path is without question, interacting with students. Both inside of the classroom and out, seeing students achieve their goals of learning and professionalism is the most rewarding gift a teacher can receive. |

Dr. Phylis Lan LinPresidential International Ambassador & Director of Asian ProgramsIn 1997 the baccalaureate program in social work at the University of Indianapolis was accredited and appropriately named "The Phylis Lan Lin Program in Social Work." Since beginning her career with UIndy in 1973, Dr. Lin has served under four "excellent" University presidents. She has been the driving force behind the development of the The Phylis Lan Lin Program in Social Work, Asian Programs, and University of Indianapolis Press.1 Her career reaches far beyond the University of Indianapolis. In 1996, Mayor William Hudnut II proclaimed July 26, 1991, as "Dr. Phylis Lan Lin Day" to honor her contributions in strengthening the family unit all over the world. In November 2001, Dr. Lin was designated a member of the "Good Old Girls" in the Indianapolis Business Journal's issue on Women in Business, which named her as one of the 33 most influential women in the city of Indianapolis. She was highlighted in the March 2003 Indianapolis Woman as a person of inspiration because of her survival of breast cancer. Sandy Baughn |
Sandy BaughnAdministrative Assistant Mrs. Baughn is the Administrative Assistant for the Social Sciences Department which includes the Phylis Lan Lin Program in Social Work. She began part-time in 1990 with the Behavioral Sciences Department, later renamed as the Social Sciences Department. She has been full-time since 1991. She manages the department office and is responsible for maintaining office and student records. In her personal life, Mrs. Baughn is affiliated with numerous history-oriented organizations, having served a two year term as Regent of her chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her free time is spent with her spouse and their two sons and their families. |
